My husband and I were planning a hospital birth but I knew that I wanted to do everything as natural as possible, but the thought of being prepared and advocating for myself was extremely intimidating. A friend of mine had used Marcia and absolutely loved her and raved about how great of an experience that birth was with having a doula/Marcia specifically. So, we contacted Marcia and during our initial phone call with her we were immediately put at ease and knew he had to have her as a part of our team. She provided a wealth of knowledge and such a sense of peace around giving birth. Prior to getting pregnant the thought of a home birth had crossed my mind. I loved the idea of it, but once I actually got pregnant I had doubts and just decided for our first birth it was probably best to go to a hospital. While talking to Marcia and talking through why we had contemplated a home birth, she really put our minds at ease and gave us confidence that we could definitely do a home birth if we wanted to, but did not pressure us at all! She gave us the contact info for a midwife in our area and told us it was up to us if we wanted to reach out. We reached out to that midwife and after that conversation, we knew for sure we wanted to move forward with having a home birth. My labor was long and hard (both mentally and physically) but Marcia was always so present and knew how to be there for me. Whether it was giving me the encouragement to keep going, helping me to navigate new positions/methods to keep labor going, being a shoulder to cry on, or keeping me hydrated and well fed. With my labor being so long and not without it's "complications", I know for a fact my birth story would have been completely different if we didn't have Marcia alongside of us. But we were so happy to have delivered our baby boy in the safety of our home.
