Testimonial for Midwest Doulas- Doulas, Placenta Encapsulation
When interviewing doulas, we were looking for a science based advocate to help us digest medical choices and collaborate with our OB and the hospital staff. After hearing Justine's story - Justine became a doula because she couldn't find the science based advocate she was looking for in the births of her children - we knew she was the doula for us. Midwest Doulas is in high demand and we were lucky that Justine and her team had an opening for our due date!
Leading up to our birth, we met with each of the doulas on the team: Justine to learn about us and our preferences, Ale to teach us labor positions, and Rachel to talk through postpartum planning. Although we planned to birth with Justine, it was nice to get to know the rest of the team in case Justine was unavailable.
Once labor started, I was in constant contact with the entire team via phone. I was impressed at how quickly they responded to my questions and concerns, even at 3AM. They helped reassure me to stay at home until I was in a consistent contraction pattern, which I believe made it possible for me to have a birth with minimal interventions. Without their reassurance, we would have gone to the hospital much earlier.
When I was ready to go to the hospital, they fully supported my decision. After we arrived and my labor finally reached a consistent pattern, Justine supported me with positioning recommendations, encouragement, and collaboration with my OB and the delivery nurse. She also supported my husband and made sure he took his own time to eat, nap, and take in a wonderful experience as my partner and number one supporter.
We had a healthy, strong, and beautiful baby girl! We both look back on our birth experience with joy, love, and pride. It was both a challenging and euphoric experience and we are grateful for the roles Justine, Ale, and Rachel played. We highly recommend Midwest Doulas and will use them again if we have another child.
