I reached out to Melanie extremely close to my due date with little hope that she would be able to accommodate me in such a short notice (<2 weeks to due date). Luckily, she had space in her schedule to work with me the week before I was due, as well as on the birth of my first baby. From our first call, she made me feel empowered and in control of my baby's birth. Her wonderful personality was reassured when we met up in person a few days before my due date.
My water broke pretty early without contractions and she was able to walk me and my husband through every hour until I decided to go to the hospital. She was also able to calm my husband down who was nervous about the process of laboring at home. When the time came to delivery my baby, I can't even imagine the experience I would've had, had I not had Melanie by my side. I often wondered how women give birth without wonderful people like Melanie by their side?! She coached me through the process, made sure I knew she was on my side, provided me with comfort and knowledge on all my options for delivery. She never ever made me feel like I was asking a dumb question or that I was making a wrong choice. She respected my choices and supported me with whatever I decided. She made the room feel cozy and less like a hospital room, spoke kindly to the hospital staff, made sure my husband knew what to do, and overall was such a HUGE support for my family. Not only was she supportive before and during labor, but afterward as well--she checked in on us constantly (and still does).
I would recommend Melanie to anyone who is looking for a birth doula! She was the best and I am so glad our paths crossed!
