I am a labor nurse so I am reviewing Gio as both her client and as a fellow birth worker who has worked with many doulas and was very impressed.
Gio was amazing right from the start, putting me at ease from the first phone call. I would often text with her throughout the pregnancy and she always knew the right thing to say to soothe my worries and encourage me. More so than my midwives or even husband, Gio was the person who I knew would make me feel heard and understood. Gio not only is very comfortable advocating for me, she also empowered me to advocate for myself starting prenatally. I always felt fully supported and respected with her in all of my choices.
I truly cannot even express the depth of my gratitude for Gio during labor. Words are not enough. I will never forget when she arrived at my house and I finally felt safe.. I had a long, challenging labor and Gio was with me through every contraction. Looking into her eyes and listening to her voice was what carried me through. Without Gio I genuinely believe I would have had to transfer to the hospital at the very least for an epidural and likely even for a C section. I truly think she is what made that difference for me, the key that allowed me to have the powerful birth that I wanted, the best birth possible for myself and my son.
Baby's golden hour was cut short due to medical complications I experienced and Gio was the first person to hold him while my husband was supporting me. She was the one I trusted to do that. She helped me touch my baby even though I couldn't hold him and to express milk even though I couldn't put him to breast. This meant everything to me and I will never forget it.
I will never forget the incredible gift of Gio's wisdom, skill and presence.
