Hiring Virginia to be our doula was the single best decision that my husband and I made for the birth of our child. She was professional and a great communicator every step of the way. She met us in the comfort of our home and always spent at least an hour per visit so that we could get to know one another. Because of this, we fully trusted her when I went into labor. She met us at the hospital (she actually beat us there) and advocated for me during what turned out to be a very long labor.
My birth was much longer and harder than I had imagined it would be, and Virginia's presence was calming and comforting. I can't imagine what my birth experience would have been like had she not been there. She always followed my lead and never pushed anything on me (unmedicated vs. medicated or vice versa), but was instead there as a true support who knew the language of the hospital and could help me understand what was going on. After my daughter was born, Virginia helped me start breasfeeding successfully. We hired her as a lactation consultant in the subsequent weeks. Four months in, I attribute our successful breastfeeding journey to the invaluable support we had before and after the birth of our child. I can't recommend Virginia enough as a doula, and I will absolutely work with her again if I have another child.
