I met Elan early on in my pregnancy and knew that I needed to have her as my doula. My husband didn't see the point of hiring a doula but I knew I wanted a different experience than my last births and I felt strongly that I needed her in this birth. I hired her because I was not eligible to have a home birth with a certified midwife. I still wanted to have an all natural and unmedicated birth, but it had to be in the hospital, I knew Elan could help me in the hospital to be strong and not cave to possible interventions. Elan was everything I wanted in a doula and so much more. The information that she knew about differing hospitals and providers was so helpful in a lot of my decision making. She taught me many things I didn't know and also worked with both me and my husband on useful things to do during pregnancy (like spinning babies) and things he could do for me during labor, like counter pressure. She was there to answer questions that I had, and she was so helpful the day I actually went into labor. She offered to help me labor at home but I just wanted her at the hospital. She met us at the hospital and was my help and saving grace as I went through transition and the ring of fire. I wanted to scream out high pitched and loud at the end but she was next to me, calmly reminding me to keep my voice low and to breathe to help my body open and progress. She was there to remind me that I could do it. I can't even describe how much her support helped me during this time. She is 10 out of 10 worth it! I would hire her again if we have another baby. She was not only helpful for me, but for my husband. After the birth, he told her that that was 150 times better than last time. If you are desiring a unmedicated and all natural birth, or even just a better birth, I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a doula, and if Elan is in your area, I HIGHLY recommend her. Her support helped me be successful in my birthing desires.
