Jean played an amazing role in supporting my pregnancy, my unmedicated labor and post partum. She spent the time to understand who I am and to make me hear exactly what I needed at the various stages. She helped me build a birth plan that reflected what could work best for me and made sure to advocate for it. She was quite responsive whenever I reached out to her. I had fears going into labor and she never failed to help me dig through where they could have come from so I could use these thoughts to empower me through pregnancy and birth. When labor time came, she was there at the hospital before and did not leave my side till my baby was born and till she made sure we were ok. I left my home in early labor because I was not comfortable laboring near my children. She took laps around the hospital with me and did all possible things to help me progress in labor. She then helped me labor in the tub and when transition time came she was ready with tricks to help me cope with contractions, including stress ball, certain pressure points and at times using robozo. She mentally prepared me and would adapt her approach to how I felt at the time, even if at times it meant silence. She had a relaxing environment set up and helped integrate my spouse in this beautiful birthing journey. When pushing time came, she was a rock. I would derive strength just from the eye contact we shared. She coached with strength and confidence. Overall I had the most meaningful birth where I discovered pathways of strength. I couldn't have done that without her.
