I was a bit apprehensive when I started my search for the right doula, as I wasn’t sure how I would know when I had found the right person. This was my second pregnancy and I wanted an unmedicated, “natural” birth. I knew a doula was an absolute necessity but again, I was anxious about finding the right person. Despite my feelings of apprehension, when I first spoke with Julie- I knew immediately she was it.
Julie is incredibly knowledgeable on all things pregnancy and birth. She provides all the information in easily digestible chunks and never presses her own beliefs on you- though she is happy to give her opinion when prompted. She was available for any questions I had and was always quick to respond. With her guidance, I felt extremely confident going into labor.
Julie has the best energy- she is so encouraging while also bringing the most calming presence. She knew the exact right things to say to me (words of affirmation are my love language and boy did Julie deliver!) in the exact tone I needed. She read my energy and body language perfectly and knew exactly what to say and do to help me relax into my contractions. I was slightly apprehensive about how a doula would fit in with my husband and mom also in the room but Julie blended in seamlessly and was an incredible asset to all of us, not just me. I honestly could not have imagined birthing without Julie there. In my most vulnerable, raw state- I was so happy to have Julie literally by my side holding my hand.
I believe wholeheartedly that every birthing person deserves unconditional mental and physical support during pregnancy and through labor and delivery. And Julie provides all this and more. I highly recommend her as a doula and cannot begin to truly express the gratitude I feel for her.
