When my partner and I first met with Maria on a zoom call, there was an immediate connection. We bonded and formed a deeply trusting relationship over the next 20 weeks or so prior to my labor/delivery. Every week Maria and I met for virutal prenatal yoga, she answered my questions and we discussed topics about labor, pregnancy etc. She also texted me encouraging words throughout my journey. In the last few weeks of my pregnancy Maria emphasized that she was available any time and checked in on me frequently to see how I was feeling. She made some great suggestions to ease my discomfort that helped me get more precious hours of sleep. When I went into labor and the surges were strong, Maria's techniques were a game changer so I was able to stay home for longer prior to going to the hospital. Even her tips for positioning during the car ride made a big difference. At the hospital, Maria knew our birth preferences inside and out so she advocated for our wishes. We felt more calm in the hectic hospital environment with her presence. She also boosted my partner's confidence and eased his anxiety. She gave him tasks to do while I was in labor so he felt involved and helpful. Her support gave him the courage to cut the cord! The birth experience was remarkably positive and all my fears were allayed. We hugged, we cried, it was beautiful. Maria stayed for the golden hour while my baby and I had skin-skin contact, she helped me express colostrum and have my baby latch. Our post-partum visit was great, she did reflexology on my feet and helped me with breastfeeding positions. She has been available for questions and her recommendations prevented mastitis when I experienced a clogged milk duct. We talk about so many new parent and baby concerns. I am now three months post partum and we still keep in touch. I highly recommend having a birth doula and with Maria you will feel so empowered, it is the best decision we ever made.
