Teresa was an incredible resource and support during my pregnancy (my first) and labor, even postpartum too. She strikes the perfect balance between centered earthy mindfulness and assured, bold, take-no-BS, which to me was exactly the right fit for a birth doula. I wanted someone who would counterbalance the medical side of pregnancy and birth and be a strong ally in the delivery room.
During the pregnancy, Teresa offered so much counsel and made herself available to all my questions and concerns. She managed my anxieties and gently tried to get me comfortable being a little less in control. She provided evidence-based resources throughout, especially as I neared my due date. Her expertise gave me a strong sense of confidence, and she always assured me we’d take things as they came.
Teresa provided incredible guidance during the labor itself, and I was more relaxed having her there with us. I just trusted the situation so much more with her in the room with us. She is incredibly knowledgeable, has been a part of so many births, and is deeply familiar with Mt Auburn where we birthed. (Shout out to MAH’s midwifery offerings, too!)
Teresa continuously reminded me to relinquish and soften and tap into something deep inside, and while she would say I could have totally done it without her, I hold so much gratitude for her because she really gifted me the trust in myself to carry through an unmedicated birth that I was on the fence about.
She continued to check in after my son was born, and she again was a source of useful, grounded information, tips, and suggestions.
Overall Teresa offers so so much, and I would highly recommend her. But I would also add that a doula is such a personal match, so find someone who you feel comfort and trust in. It’s an incredibly intimate rollercoaster of a journey and your doula will ideally share your values and be right there with you, just like Teresa was for us.
