My wife and I reached out to MaryBeth for support during the birth of our second child. We thought we had all our ducks in a row and were fully prepared for the birth of our first (took hypno birthing classes, bought podcasts and battery powered tea lights. The whole 9 yards.) but nothing could have prepared us for what was in store.
Even though this wasn’t our first rodeo we still had plenty of questions during the pregnancy and MaryBeth always answered promptly at nearly all hours of the day. She never once seemed bothered or annoyed.
When it finally came time to head to the hospital we were thrilled. She was going into spontaneous labor exactly as she had hoped and had unfortunately missed out on the first time. We arrived at the hospital eager to meet our baby boy, however the excitement quickly turned to dread upon our first interaction with our provider. In his first sentence to us we were told she had two hours to progress or she was required to begin Pitocin if we wanted to be admitted. My wife was devastated as she fully expected to waddle the halls until her baby naturally arrived but being put on a clock was incredibly stressful. MaryBeth immediately stepped up and made sure that the charge nurse administered as much of our care as possible unless medically necessary. Thanks to her familiarity with the hospital staff, we were able to escape with only a few sentences exchanged between the OB and a quick catch and stitch. My wife got exactly the natural unmedicated birth she wanted and felt so empowered postpartum it was night and day compared to our first.
As a husband who doesn’t exactly thrive in hospital settings, having an extra support system for my wife during this incredibly challenging time was a huge relief. We don’t plan to add to our family but if we did, we would absolutely hire MaryBeth again. She was a lifesaver.
