My husband and I interviewed many doulas and ultimately hired Joslin and a partner doula who were the right fit for us and a very dynamic duo. Whether it was in preparation, at the hospital, or postpartum – Joslin provided guidance, support, and love every step of the way. Joslin is a licensed clinical social worker which definitely guides how she approaches her work as a doula. She is grounded and has a calming presence that helped me center myself in several challenging moments in labor and delivery and beyond. When I told people at the hospital that Joslin was my doula it was like I name dropped a celebrity and it opened doors for us. Her knowledge of how hospitals operate was invaluable. I happened to deliver at a time when the hospital had more than twice as many people in active labor than they were equipped to handle.
An example of what working with Joslin was like that I can share - I ultimately had a belly birth and when I was recovering in the PACU the hospital staff were extremely overstretched. I had sent my husband to go meet our baby and in that moment having Joslin with me was everything. She worked the hospital staff and got me everything I needed, it was pure advocacy in a moment where I couldn’t advocate for myself – the essence of being a doula.
And then in postpartum when I realized I had birth trauma and was grieving some of the moments I had envisioned in birth that didn’t ultimately go as expected, Joslin was exactly who I needed. I can’t imagine going through the perinatal period again without her.
