Britney was exactly what I needed and was hoping for in a doula. Warm, empathetic and calm are just a few words I would use to describe her. She made my partner and I feel comfortable and at ease from the beginning. She also has a very clear and direct communication style that helped us feel confident she would seek clarity and understanding in our partnership and with our healthcare providers. She asked thoughtful questions during pregnancy, throughout the birthing experience and postpartum to give space for my partner and I to process and work through fears, expectations, and next steps. She provided such genuine care and friendship to us through this incredibly intense life change and transformation. While there are many moments I could call to, a few stand out. In the middle of my delivery she helped me voice and advocate for myself with a very pushy healthcare provider in a way that I don’t think I would have been able to without her presence. Additionally, a few days after I gave birth I was having a difficult time breastfeeding and couldn’t find any lactation consultants that were available. Britney reached out to her birthing network to help facilitate finding us a consultant that was able to come to our home the next day. There was also a very low moment for me when things weren’t going well with my dog and baby. I was jumping to extremes (like getting rid of my dogs) and Britney was able to help me pull out and look at the situation more holistically. After speaking with her we ended up working with a dog behavior specialist and things have significantly improved. It was in these moments of high stress, intense emotions, and overwhelm that she was a listening ear and wise counsel. I truly believe that I can look back at my birthing and postpartum experience with joy and fondness. While it wasn’t easy, I felt deeply supported and Britney was pivotal to our families process and success.
