It's been 4 months since the delivery and I have had a descent amount of time to reflect on the experience I had using Melissa as our doula. I have an 18 year old and have since learned that the birth experience I had with him was quite difficult and produced a significant amount of fear for my second child. Melissa provided a wonderful experience with support for the delivery but also for my husband as he was quite nervous about the big day. All in all, I know I feel I would not have reached my birth goals if she had not been present. She provided encouragement, positioning advice, massage, hip pressure, pushing advice, and breastfeeding support. She was exceptional to the point that things went so smoothly I plan to use her again should I be so lucky to get pregnant again. The birth of a child is such a sacred event for the mother, a doula's support is on a quite different level than a support person who has not given birth.
