This is long overdue - new parent life! Melissa was an absolute game changer for both my husband and me. From the moment we sat down for a consultation, Melissa gave me the confidence that I could have an unmedicated birth.
Leading up to birth, we really appreciated the NDDA community and the classes we attended were packed with knowledge - we preferred this setting over the hospital classes. Birth planning and having someone to reach out to if I had questions throughout pregnancy was amazing, but the value of having Melissa in the labor & delivery room to support me, and help my husband support me, was unmatched.
I went into L&D with an open mind, knowing if I felt I needed an epidural I would be accepting of it. When I say Melissa gave me the tools to feel confident, I mean to the point where an epidural did not even cross my mind throughout labor. (*Shout out to nitrous oxide which helped take the edge off, which I wouldn't have known was an option if not for Melissa). I felt 100% safe under Melissa's care, knowing I could look to her for reassurance or guidance when a decision needed to be made. She kept me in the loop, gave me options, and shared her recommendations (very helpful for a laboring mama in pain). She kept my husband fully immersed in the entire experience, partnering with him on counter pressure positions. With this being our first time, it made all the difference to feel like a team.
To top it off, the relationships she has with the doctors and nurses at Baylor (who were ALL absolutely incredible) made everything that much more seamless and comfortable. I feel so grateful that I can reflect on my birth experience and have nothing but positive feelings and things to say. I LOVE sharing my story when someone asks, and don't hesitate to shout from the rooftops just how big of a difference it made having a doula. THANK YOU Melissa & NDDA!
