We were put in contact with Lawren by a postpartum doula we planned to work with because my birth plan had to change when I was informed the Dr was planning an induction. I had been working on birth prep with a different outcome in mind, and I had a lot of questions when I heard about the induction plan. Lawren was able to meet with us in person before the birth, more than once, despite our unorthodox situation of contacting her at the last minute. She gave us a run down of how inductions typically work, what I could expect, and most importantly empowered me so that I still felt that I could aim for the birth experience I wanted despite this last minute change in plans. She truly listened to what I was hoping for, what I was nervous about (this was our first child so it was all unknown), and what I was wondering, and she made me feel so much better when it came time to go in for our induction.
On the day, she was available and we were in contact via text as things progressed. Once we got going, it all happened fast, but Lawren was there, by our sides, helping me stay calm and making me feel like I still had a say in what was happening. She made sure I was as comfortable as I could be, and she stayed with us until we were being transferred to the recovery room after it all was over. There were so many little things Lawren was doing while we were in the thick of it, I am sure I'm not even aware of them all - cold compresses, back rubs, encouragement.... But the way she made me feel is most important in that moment. I felt I was safe, supported, listened to, and strong. That was invaluable.
