We couldn't have been more fortunate to have had Alyx as a doula for the birth of our first baby. She was fantastic in so many ways, however there were a few specific things that really made the world of difference to our experience.
1. From the start Alyx made it clear that she wanted our birth to be about myself, my husband and our entrance into this new phase of life - and her role was support that in anyway she could. She shifted my mindset around what the birth experience could be, and how we could use it as a launch pad to really cement our relationship as the foundation as we entered this new chapter. At no point was it ever about her, it was always about us and supporting us.
2. I can honestly say that I don't know how my birth would have gone without Alyx in that birthing room. With 4 hours of pushing, there were definitely moments where I was at the end of my rope and didn't know if I could keep going. She somehow always knew the perfect moment to step in with words of empowerment or with a practical suggestion. She ensured I was hydrating and getting sustenance, which ended up being so crucial. She was amazing in that room & I can't imagine giving birth again in the future without her there.
3. Alyx was available for as many or few sessions I wanted to meet before and after our birth. She gave time above and beyond what was required. I felt that I could reach out with anything at anytime and she was always there to help.
Thank you Alyx. You made a world of difference and such a positive impact on our birth story. We will both be forever grateful.
