My husband and I decided we wanted a doula present at the birth of our first child when I was already well into my third trimester of pregnancy. Kali took time to sit with us, learn about our birth preferences, and help us prepare mentally, physically, and spiritually for birth. During the actual labor and delivery, Kali was the calm, steady presence that we needed. When labor seemed to stall and the hospital team suggested more invasive interventions, Kali was our advocate. She helped us process the decision by gently reminding us of the birth preferences we had initially shared with her. In that moment, I felt freedom to change my mind with no judgment, but more importantly, I felt empowered to keep pressing on and laboring naturally. She was by my side through the night until we welcomed our baby girl the next morning. My husband reflected after the birth, “I’m really glad Kali was there. It would have been a lot harder and more stressful if it was just me. I’m really grateful for her support.” I am so grateful to Kali for helping make the natural birth we had hoped and prayed for possible. I feel strongly that every woman would benefit from having a doula during her birth experience, and I can’t recommend Kali highly enough!
