Testimonial for Diane Tabilo, LCSW, CD(DONA) - Bilingual

My husband and I welcomed our fifth blessing this past May. This was my second birth with Diane. She previously attended the birth of my fourth child three years ago, and I knew after that if I was ever to have another baby, I wanted Diane there again. The three words I would use to describe Diane as a doula are peaceful, attentive, and encouraging. This was my 3rd home birth after having two hospital births. I knew with the 5th baby that things would likely go fast. I was texting Diane most of the morning as I was having on-and-off labor. She was so attentive even though she had been up all night at another birth. After labor stayed steady for an hour, I texted Diane and she came over. She helped me through some contractions while I was on a birthing ball. It didn't seem like I was in active labor yet, but I knew things would move quickly once it started. The midwives started filling the birthing tub for me, but I hesitated to get in because I was managing so well on the ball. Diane encouraged me to use the bathroom and get into the tub. I resisted because I knew my contractions would grow stronger once I stood. She gently encouraged me that those strong contractions meant my baby would be here soon. That was precisely what I needed to hear at that moment. She and my husband helped me over to the bathroom. The change of position was just what my body needed. I made it into the bathroom but not into the tub. As soon as I was seated on the toilet, my water broke and baby's head was out a few moments later. Diane called for the midwife, who was just outside the bathroom. She and my husband helped to support me while I stood and pushed. My baby was in my arms only a few minutes later. Diane knew exactly what to say and what my body needed. I have recommended her to at least a half dozen friends and will continue to do so! I am forever thankful for her role in creating a beautiful experience for my past two births!
