As a Black public health professional and first time mom, I had been inundated with statistics about Black maternal and infant mortality rates and was terrified to give birth. Denise provided support to my husband and I throughout my pregnancy including regular breastfeeding classes and a course detailing the labor and delivery process. I felt prepared and extremely knowledgeable about what to expect when it was time to give birth. I was fortunate to have my birth plan go exactly as I had always dreamed and all the things I'd learned from Denise about the labor process helped to make that happen.
