I was expecting my first child in July, and just like all first time moms I found my self scared and anxious at the thought of labor! Specially since I had experienced my sisters labor & delivery in a Long Island hospital. Disappointedly birth in America is seen more as an emergency and a business, that the process itself can be downright chaotic. An event that is supposed to be a beautiful experience in a women's life often gets skewed by a snowball of unnecesary interventions. Therefore, I knew I wanted a doula, to serve as an advocate and emotional/ physical support, and was lucky to come across Alex. From our first session to the last, Alex was always insightful and took the time to hear out all my concerns and found ways to help me. She further expanded my knowledge on labor & delivery, postpartum, and newborns and gave me outside resources when I wanted more. During labor she pulled out all the works, from candles to music, she set the mood in my delivery room and everyone from doctors to nurses appreciated walking in. From awesome foot massages to words of encouragement she always made sure I was priority and her constant attention greatly helped to put my mind at ease, I knew I could achieve labor the way I dreamed, but she helped make it happen for me and without her I don't believe it would've been as successful as it was.
