When delivering in the hospital, the doctors and nurses are not focused on the emotional well-being of the parents, so it was important for us to have someone with experience in births to support us through the experience. Jean was very supportive to my husband and I through the pregnancy and birth of our son. We met with Jean in advance to connect and discuss our birth plan which helped us to feel more comfortable as we prepared. She frequently reached out to check-in with us, ask if we had any questions, and send birth affirmations – which I always appreciated. Despite a fast labor, Jean was there with us from the beginning – communicating our birth plan, helping us to understand what was happening and helping us make decisions throughout the labor, delivery and recovery. After our son was born and we went home from the hospital, Jean was very compassionate in helping me process the birth and emotionally heal from the experience.
