Rachel initially filled in as backup when our primary postpartum dolua had a schedule conflict. Looking back I feel so lucky that this allowed us to experience them. Their presence was calm and comforting and put me right at ease, they soothed my baby to sleep and held him while listening to my birth story. I also got a much needed nap and when I woke up Rachel had cooked us a mouthwatering meal. They melted into our home like they had always been there, a nurturing friend who listens deeply and cares authentically.
I booked many mornings with Rachel after that. Sometimes during a particularly challenging night with our newborn it was the thought that Rachel would be there in the morning that helped me get through. They made the space I needed to get to savor my time with my new tiny baby and I'm so incredibly grateful for it.
