I am a first time mom who has never been on the patient-side of healthcare before pregnancy. I very quickly learned that the standard of prenatal, labor and delivery care, as well as what insurance companies offer, were not going to lead me to my dream birth experience. I knew I needed a doula at my hospital birth as my desire was to have a natural, physiological birth without any absolutely necessary interventions.
