Raya was absolutely amazing, I don't think a review will do her or her service justice, but I'll try my best.
She kept me as calm as possible and continued to gently encourage and talk me through during my labor, especially when I needed support most while pushing. I'll add that I was particularly stubborn when it came time to push. My OB did not have the greatest bedside manner, but Raya knew my preference and advocated for me when I couldn't. She allowed me the time I needed to process and labor at my own pace when my doctor insisted on rushing things (there were no medical emergencies or reason to rush). She also helped keep my husband calm and encouraged his inclusion in the process with tips to get me through contractions (although I preferred her gentle massage techniques over his??).
In addition to the outstanding support she provided during labor, Raya is well educated and was able to answer pretty much any questions my husband and I had in the several meetings that we had with her during the months leading up to labor. She took time to get to know us, our labor preferences, and even scheduled an "exercise day" with me to help with my hip pain.
At first I was unsure whether or not hiring a doula would be right for us, but we would hire Raya again in a heartbeat. I can't imagine having to go through pregnancy and labor without her.
