I’ve started and deleted the intro to this review about 15 times because words can’t describe how pivotal of a role Rachel played in my second birth. I met Rachel after my chiro and my midwife had both given her name on a list of doulas they had worked with and liked. This was my second pregnancy and I had a very rough 42 hour labor with 3.5 hours of pushing for my first in the peak of COVID with just my husband and I in the delivery room. I wanted this pregnancy and delivery to be totally different. That is where Rachel came in, she was exactly what I needed she is not only a wealth of knowledge and I truly believe she played a pivotal role in my second labor only being 5 hours but she also offers a maternal presence. Rachel has a way about her in which she can so perfectly offer a listening ear when needed and also provide information and support about all things pregnancy and labor. I always felt 100% support from Rachel throughout my pregnancy for my birth to be exactly what I wanted it to be. If I wanted an induction, Rachel was offering me tips, if I wanted an epidural Rachel was talking me through positions but when I decided to decline an induction Rachel was onboard and calmed my fears, when I decided I wanted to wait as long as possible she helped me in preparing. Rachel is exactly what every doula should be she made my birth about me, my husband and our new baby. She played one of the most important roles in the room making sure the nurses and hospital staff listened to our wishes and gently suggesting and guiding me to different positions but somehow she did this all while making it feel like it was just my husband and I. She held my hand when I needed it while my husband was applying counter pressure, she got me water and cool towels without me having to think about asking or verbalize that need. I only hope Rachel will be at the birth (if she desires) of all our subsequent children, I honestly can’t imagine now not having her.
