We highly reccommend hiring Jill as your doula! We initially hired Jill because I wanted a natural birth, and my husband wanted help and guidance in figuring out how to support me through it. After hiring her, we met with her to discuss our birth plan, for her to get to know us better, and she answered questions we had about the birth process, birth plan, things to research, etc. Then, after we had a few birthing classes at the hospital, Jill met with us again at our home to answer questions we had and to make sure she was comfortable getting to our house before the big day. Along the way, we had text check ins (my preference) to chat about things that had come up at doctors appointments. When I had concerns about a certain policy from my OBGYN, Jill was able to send me resources to read up on my options and educate myself to make an evidence based decision. Once I went into labor, I was so thankful to have Jill to text in the middle of the night. When we realized that I was having an odd pattern of contractions, Jill encouraged us to call our doctor to let them know. Once in the hospital, we were so thankful to have Jill there with us. It was incredibly helpful to have Jill explain things, keep eyes on the monitors, and check in with us to make sure we were okay when things weren't going as planned. Unfortunately, I ended up with a c-section and Jill was not allowed in the room. But not only did she help prepare me and calm my nerves but she also supported my husband. He was afraid he'd be sick during the c-section so she helped him calm down and even gave him peppermint essential oils to smell to help with any nausea. Overall, we highly reccommend hiring Jill. Even if you think your doctors office is supportive, it really helps to have an in-between person that is totally committed to you. Birth is an unpredictable process, but hiring Jill is like having a really good insurance policy to take care of you no matter which direction it goes!
