Hiring Midwest Doulas for pregnancy, birth, and post-partum support was the best decision we could’ve made for my second pregnancy. From the moment we had our initial meeting with Justine, I felt at ease and supported- we hired her minutes after hanging up. We met with Justine, Ale and Rachel leading up to the birth. They helped us to determine our birth plan, taught comfort positioning for pregnancy and birth, and helped us feel confident and organized in our post-partum planning. They provided us with resources that were evidence based, and connected us with a lactation consultant who was right for us based on our previous difficult experiences with nursing/pumping. Throughout our journey, they provided non-judgemental and supportive care. At the start of my labor, Justine was extremely responsive and supportive. She met us at the hospital while we were still in the assessment center. I immediately felt safe and confident in what was to come. She was unbelievably calm and encouraging, and knew exactly what to say and how to position me in order to help my labor progress. Her care is what allowed me to labor as effectively as I did, and I was so thankful to have had the birth I hoped for. I know whole-heartedly that I would not have had the same birth experience without Justine by my side. Post-partum, she remained relentlessly supportive and checked in frequently with calls/texts/a vist. We had opted for a post-partum Doula, though had the support of family in the early days and didn’t need one right away. They were encouraging of using this service in our own time, and we had our first shift with Julie over 1 month after our birth. I can already see that we will continue to feel supported and cared for in our post-partum journey. I would recommend Midwest Doulas to anyone who is pregnant, regardless of the type of delivery you are hoping for or end up having. My only regret is not being able to work with them for my first pregnancy!
