I have too many wonderful things to say about Michele and District Doulas, but I’ll just share the highlights here. From our first in person meeting with Michele we felt at ease, understood and simply in great hands. Michelle strikes the perfect balance between being the calm, gentle, understanding supporter and the frank experienced realist & guide that antsy first time moms to be/parents to be need. She really helped us adjust our expectations and priorities for the birth plan. She exudes the calm competence of someone who has seen tons of births, yet treated me as a unique individual. She was completely invaluable during labor - from phone support in early labor to in-person support and coaching at home, empowering me to take control of my labor by helping me get the hang of movement, breathing, and vocalizations through contractions, and being a full participant in the care team at the hospital, she was a perfect guide and supporter throughout the whole experience. She was on the phone with us while we were driving to the hospital which helped put my husband at ease too. At GW, she is so familiar with the hospital and the midwives, I feel that she brought the whole care team together to work cohesively so that I could just focus on my sensations and headspace. I was so lucky to have an amazing first experience, laboring at home until 7 cm dilated, being able to forgo pain meds, and additionally getting the privilege to have an incredible water birth! I felt positive and in control the entire time, and I absolutely have Michele to thank. And she taught me how to do the first breastfeeding! At the postpartum visit, she diagnosed an uncommon type of tongue tie in my son that the hospital lactation consultant didn’t find, and advised us on how to proceed with a frenotomy, continuing to check in with us for weeks postpartum. I completely credit her with getting us on track to succeed in breastfeeding. I am so thankful for you, Michele!
