I got pregnant with our first child quickly after moving from Colorado back to my home state of Illinois. I did some research prior to the move and met with my wonderful midwife, so we were set there, but I hadn't decided whether to hire a doula yet. Marcia came highly recommended by my midwife. We initially met via FaceTime and I knew we would work well together; I already felt so much more at ease about birth knowing that she would be on our team! Marcia was a great resource throughout pregnancy regarding exercise, nutrition and general emotional support. She was always available to answer any questions that came up. And when birth day finally came, Marcia was at my house within 2 hours of getting the "please head our way now" phone call. And I live about an hour and a half away!
Having Marcia there during my home birth was one of the best decisions I made for the pregnancy/birth. She intuitively knew how to support me physically and emotionally, and also knew when to let me be in my own space within the depths of laborland. Marcia was so helpful after the birth too, helping us get baby to latch properly, getting me a plate of hot food, cleaning up the birth space, processing my placenta and more. The postpartum visit and phone calls were so lovely and much needed too!
The short version: hire Marcia as your doula and you'll get so much more than you'd ever expect! She is intelligent, experienced, intuitive and just a really great woman with a big heart. I would love for Marcia to be at all of my future births!
