Testimonial for Knetta Adkins CD(DONA)
Because our three-year journey to conceive was hard fought, I wanted to ensure that my birth experience was as peaceul as possible. To me that meant having the right people in the room. Knetta proved to be the right person. From our initial consultation she was patient and forthright and appeared to have all the time in the world to answer our new-parent-to-be questions and concerns. During delivery, she created an ambiance (words of affirmation, lighting, and diffusers) that even the Labor & Delivery staff found warm and welcoming. When my contractions began to be stronger, she provided back rubs that eased my discomort. When I opted for a c-section, she was supportive in my change of birth plan and offered us encouragement before we went into surgery. Postpartum, she was there to help with light housework, which was a huge help to me as I was not very mobile while recovering from c-section and my husband was severely sleep deprived while taking care of a recovering wife and newborn. Most importantly (as someone whose family is hundreds of miles away), I valued having a Black woman in the room who was a constant force of positivity and light. Knetta was one of the best investments in my birth plan.
