I was excited but a little apprehensive about choosing a new midwife/doula team after moving to a new state. When I met Marcia I realized a had found not only a professional, well-trained doula but also a kind, Christian woman that I could call friend. Whenever Marcia came into our home she was all there - interacting with our other 4 children, and encouraging me and educating me in a relaxed, motherly way. After 2 days of discouraging prodromal labor and little sleep, labor finally kicked into gear. Marcia arrived just in time (I only wish I'd called her sooner!) as I was literally climbing my bedframe and not at all relaxed! She calmly but firmly got me into the shower and started encouraging me through each contraction and giving ideas to try for more relief. She reminded me that I was in a safe place and that if I was feeling pushy that it was ok to push. Her relaxed, patient manner really helped me follow my body's instincts more so than some of my previous home births. At delivery we had a scary moment but Marcia coached me through firmly and calmly. Babe was born safely. I felt like a queen as Marcia and my midwife so tenderly and cheerfully cared for me and our baby boy after birth. Marcia even made a special visit when I asked several weeks after birth just to spend time with/encourage us. That really meant a lot, being far from family. My husband and I have always said we'll never be without a doula for our births, and that has only become more true after getting to know Marcia!
