We were so blessed to have Amy as our doula! We loved the prenatal meetings that prepared us for the birth and also postpartum. We planned on having the birth at a birth center, but due to there being meconium in my amniotic fluid when my water broke, we had to transfer to the hospital, a bug change of plan. I had been planning for an unmedicated water birth and was nervous going to the hospital. It was such a relief when Amy made it to the hospital. To have Amy as a comforting, friendly face and knowing she would stand up for mine and my husband’s wishes if ever necessary, was truly worth every penny and more. I was able to have an unmedicated and positive birth, and Amy definitely played a big part in it!
I have no clue how people birth without a doula. She and my husband were constantly coaching me through contractions, reminding me to focus on my breath instead of the pain (it was annoying to me at the time, but greatly appreciated deep down ??). My husband was able to provide love and history and Amy was able to bring her knowledge and support, truly all important factors in labor and birth.
It was also so helpful to have Amy there shortly after the birth to help with breastfeeding. We truly had such a great experience with Amy and will definitely be working with her with future births :)
