I’m so glad my husband and I had Suzanne as our doula for the birth of our first child 5 months ago at Swedish First Hill. I wanted to attempt a non-medicated birth but was open to using an epidural so we wanted a doula who would support us either way. We chose Suzanne because of her warm personality, extensive experience, and supportive attitude. Knowing we’d also get high-quality photos of our birth was a plus!

I went into labor a week early, and things happened differently than I’d imagined. Having Suzanne to provide suggestions, guidance, and emotional support was invaluable. The TENS unit was amazing for early contractions, and once the pitocin started I was incredibly grateful to have her there. I’d wanted to avoid pitocin, but once it became necessary Suzanne was so helpful in getting me comfortable with it. She worked seamlessly with the medical staff while making sure I was ok with everything. The bath Suzanne prepared was an oasis of relief before I finally requested an epidural. Suzanne held me in her arms and comforted me while helping me stay still during its placement. Then she worked tirelessly through the night, turning me over and checking on me, until it was time to push. She was a great coach for pushing, and after 2.5 hours my daughter was born.

Suzanne has since checked in regularly to offer helpful advice on breastfeeding and postpartum care. I was only thinking about the birth when I hired her, but the postpartum support has been equally valuable. After a rocky first month, breastfeeding has really taken off for us. I attribute much of that success to Suzanne’s encouragement and advice. Looking back, my husband and I wondered how we would’ve gotten through it all without her! Regardless of what your ideal birth looks like, Suzanne will support you, your partner, and your baby. I've been recommending Suzanne and her team to everyone I know and will continue to do so!
