Melissa has worked with us for both of our births and has made all the difference in each one! My goal was to have an unmedicated birth both times and I knew that I would need someone there who would tell me I could do it and keep me going if I got discouraged. Her calm, confident spirit was such a comfort to both my husband and me. Melissa was fully supportive of any decision we made (epidural, induction, unmedicated birth, etc) while also clearly explaining the options and ramifications of each one. She is truly non-judgmental and wants each of her clients to have their best birth, whatever that might look like for them. We had both babies at Baylor in downtown Dallas, and I loved that every nurse and doctor knew Melissa and that she knew the hospital equipment and resources so well. She was wonderful about communicating with our nurses (even over the phone before arriving at the hospital!) and could translate anything the hospital staff said in a way that we (non-medical people) could understand. She is so knowledgeable and was able to give suggestions for helpful positions to keep labor moving along. Knowing that she has helped so many other women have unmedicated births really gave me confidence that I could do it too. I truly can’t imagine having had either of my babies without her there! I highly recommend Melissa, and fully believe she is worth the investment if you are considering having a doula at your birth.
