As a first time mother with no family in the area, the weeks after my son was born were overwhelming for both me and my husband (who had to go back to work fairly quickly). I was also dealing with some postpartum complications that made everything... harder. Although I wasn't sure what it would be like having someone I barely knew in the house during such a vulnerable, challenging and intimate time, it took only a moment to recognize how invaluable Tasha's quiet support, confidence and wisdom would be for my family. Though much of that time is a blur, I recall how safe I felt taking some time for myself (to shower, eat a meal in relative quiet) while Tasha held my son, walked him around the house, bounced and cradled him in a way that calmed him, and me. She also listened and offered her thoughts/experience/expertise about the new world of newborns, from breastfeeding to sleep. She completely understands how the seemingly banal offer to pick-up groceries or execute a recipe for milk-producing cookies (which seemed a daunting task for me just a couple of weeks postpartum) is actually a huge help. Though our time together was brief, I've known Tasha since, and cannot adequately speak to how kind, thoughtful, understanding and simply, sincerely supportive of motherhood Tasha is. She is a natural and skilled helper, healer and nurturer of both women and children. It was a gift to have her support and I'm now hoping to give that gift to friends who are expecting.
