Cindi was a wonderful help to me in preparing for birth, and especially when the birth did not go as planned. As a first time mom, and considered high risk because of my age, I had a lot of anxiety going into this. I think one of the most valuable things she did in our pre-birth meetings was start gently preparing me to expect the unexpected. She was very supportive of my choice to ask for an unmedicated labor using my HypnoBabies techniques, and she coached me and my husband in different positions for laboring, including some with the rebozo or yoga ball. At the same time, she encouraged me to also think about and write down my birth preferences for a c-section, just in case. I'm so glad she did, because at 38 weeks and 4 days, my stubborn baby girl was in a transverse breech position and I suddenly had severe preeclampsia. Cindi was there with me and my husband for those scary hours in the triage room, while the nurses gave me medications to prevent seizures and get my blood pressure down. She helped us both stay calm, made sure the staff knew my birth preferences, and supported me when I changed my mind on some of those preferences at the last minute. My husband often passes out at the sight of blood or needles, so Cindi was the one holding my hand when they were having a hard time getting me on an IV. Because of COVID protocols still in place, no other family members were allowed, but she could be there as a birthing professional. I can't imagine doing it without her. Her good work allowed me to go into the OR feeling calm and empowered instead of terrified and disappointed. My daughter and I came through the c-section just fine, with my husband by my side, and Cindi met us in the recovery room. She helped me still get my wish of having skin to skin time within the first hour after birth, and coached me through our first breastfeeding session. I will always be grateful for everything Cindi did for us!
