When I became pregnant, I knew I wanted a doula during labor since this was my first baby. I had a lot of anxiety surrounding labor and what that would look like. I knew I wanted to an epidural and I wasn’t sure if Doulas helped with a medicated birth. My husband and I found MaryBeth and gave her a call to ask our questions. She was very open to helping us through labor with a medicated birth. I felt like she was empowering me to choose what was best for me in whatever our birth plan looked like. I loved that she also added support for my husband as he was so nervous about what labor would look like, she could help him know how to support me through the process. When the time came, MaryBeth join us at the hospital. I stopped dilating at 8 cm and ended up needing a C-section because the baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and his heart rate kept dropping. We were SO grateful for MaryBeth every step of the way through our labor journey. With her knowledge of having experienced so many births, she was able to put us at ease when we had questions or needed a second opinion. I really felt cared for and she was able to advocate for me from the preferences that we had discussed. Even though our birth plan didn’t happen how we planned, I truly had the best experience I could have had because MaryBeth was there. During the C-section, she was able to comfort me in that everything would be ok and did not leave my side. When my son entered the world, she said “You’re birthing your baby” which was huge for me to feel connected to my son and acknowledge what was happening. I am so grateful for MaryBeth, to say thank you to her really isn’t enough, she will forever be a part of our story. If you are thinking about using a Doula, I would not hesitate to recommend MaryBeth to you, you deserve the special care, support, and ways she can advocate for you during one of the most important days of your life.
