Barbie is amazing—-We are so grateful for her!!! She is warm, kind, and brings a wonderful energy to the process of preparing for and completing childbirth. From our first informal meeting with her and onward, she was generous with her time, knowledge and support. In our pre delivery meetings she shared her knowledge and experience with us in a way that helped us fill in the blanks left behind by books that cover the birthing process in 1.5 pages. This information helped us develop a much greater understanding of the birthing process, how the medical system often handles the birthing process, as well as logistics about the hospital (rooms, layout). Every step of the way she provided information to us in a matter of fact way with pros and cons of different choices. This empowered us to make informed decisions aligned with our priorities and values. Barbie quickly became a trusted resource. She helped us navigate unexpected medical concerns, ED visits and conflicting medical perspectives with the same care that she had provided in our delivery prep. During labor, she continued to help us understand and navigate changing circumstances in the labor process. She advocated for us in the moment and supported us in advocating for ourselves. Not to mention, she was an amazing source of comfort for both of us throughout the day.
It’s hard to capture in a brief statement all of the ways she made an invaluable impact on our pregnancy and delivery experience. We can say with absolute confidence that Barbie’s role in our labor was crucial to having a birth experience consistent with our wishes. In short—-Barbie is a wonderful and kind person and we can’t imagine going through this without her!
