I am a first-time mom with a history of pregnancy losses, and I had severe hyperemesis gravidarum for most of my pregnancy. Having Barbie as my doula was exactly what I needed on every level. I cannot imagine my pregnancy, and especially my labor, without her. Not only was she helpful with all the physical issues but her emotional support was truly invaluable. Barbie is a true professional with an abundance of knowledge on everything pregnancy. She was also an amazing source of support for my husband. I had a very fast and intense labor and with her guidance, my husband was able to support me in a very beautiful way. She also freed him up to take care of me while she dealt with the hospital staff and really ensured both my baby and I were getting the proper attention and care. It wasn’t until she came for the postpartum visit that I became aware of some of the scarier points of my labor and truly understood how beautifully she advocated for both me and my baby. The hospital staff was overall great, but the entire process was very overwhelming and Barbie ensured that my wishes were followed and wasn’t afraid to lean in and speak up when she saw issues. Barbie had a very intuitive and special way of dealing with me (and I’m sure all her clients) where I felt very informed and supported yet I was making all my own decisions. Barbie gives you all the info without ever being pushy or having an agenda. She really allows mamas to use their own intuition and learn to trust themselves and their bodies which has been so helpful in caring for my newborn. As a family, we highly recommend Barbie as a birth doula. She is forever part of our family. Again, I really thought a doula was mostly for the mama but her impact on my husband and baby is also quite amazing and profound. We are so grateful for her services and her presence in our lives. Barbie is a very special and genuine person; we highly recommend her!
