I wasn't sure I needed a doula until almost the end of my pregnancy, but I am so glad I hired Anna! I figured I'll need additional support being a VBAC patient and in my late 30s as well, and boy was I right. The attending physician was adamant that I need a csection when I came in for my induction at 42 weeks, even though everything was progressing normally and baby was feeling fine. Anna came in to the hospital not a moment too soon, when the Dr was pushing different interventions "to speed things up." Right away she helped me navigate which interventions make sense, and which to push back on with the support of the nursing staff. She helped me labor in different positions. When the labor pains became unbearable, she helped me get through a harrowing hour of intense pitocin contractions while I waited for the anesthesiologist to free up. Anna did all this while simultaneously providing much needed psychological and emotional support to myself and my partner. She provided her calm and supportive presence with us in a tiny delivery room close to 48 hours, dealing with a hormonal woman in labor, her crazy husband and uncooperative pushy doctor. In the end I got the VBAC I wanted and Anna deserves major credit for that, I will always be thankful.
