Carolyn is a fantastic Doula - she helped prepare me to advocate for the birth I wanted, ask questions when things started going a bit sideways, and was present and actively encouraging me through a long labor. Carolyn especially shined as a calming presence in the birthing room that allowed my spouse to take a breather and not feel like he had to be "on" the whole time. And thanks to her, during golden hour I was able to get my son latched and hand expressed a bit of colostrum to help ensure my supply later. At multiple points during the pregnancy when my spouse and I attended the District Doula prep classes and birth hour discussions, we were struck with the wealth of information offered by Carolyn and her colleagues. In her followup home visit, she took the time to make sure I debriefed and felt comfortable with my birth, and helped with breastfeeding positions and latching, and gave solid advice to help with recovery in the stressful early days.
