RE: In praise of Char Perkins (Birth Doula)
I first met Char about four years ago when pregnant with my third child, while taking her birth class. I was drawn to her warm and engaging personality, her sense of humor, and was so happy to learn she was also a birth doula.
Our family was expecting a fourth baby in spring 2022 and I was so fortunate that Char's schedule was open to accepting new clients at that time. I used a different birth doula for my first two births (different state), third birth was unattended by a doula (doula was out of town).
In my experience, Char Perkins epitomizes the term "birth professional". From her credentials as a registered nurse, to her regular involvement in childbirth education, to her many years of experience, any client lucky enough to have Char attend their birth will undoubtedly come away with a more positive and empowering birth experience.
Char easily builds rapport with her clients and shows how much she values an educated expectant mother by checking in periodically to provide ample information in the form of handouts, links, and videos to help the expectant mother plan her best birth. Char also charges a very reasonable fee for her services.
My fourth birth was unexpectedly long (for me) and throughout the challenges, Char was there every step of the way, not leaving my side physically or emotionally. She was engaged, offering alternatives and pain management techniques throughout the labor. She was also hands on, helping to mitigate my pain. I am certain without her unwavering support throughout this fourth birth, my experience may not have been as positive. I will be forever grateful and will never forget the critical impact her presence had on this recent life changing experience of mine. It may sound trite, but I truly believe that I "couldn't have done it without her".
