I cannot imagine my birthing experience without Laurie. I was very lucky and had a quick and smooth pregnancy and labor but it was still so amazing to have a doula. My husband and I had lost a baby in the second trimester previously and knew we needed someone to support us. Laurie came over to our house twice before our baby was born and we really got to know each other and what type of experience we wanted. Also, knowing she had attending so many births helped a lot.
It was invaluable for my husband to have someone who knew my wishes and knew what was normal during labor. I felt so confident knowing he felt comforable in what was going on so I could focus on myself. Laurie was comforting and supportive during everything and helped answer questions or make sure we had the best staff in our room.
What was even more valuable to me was the postpartum visit which was 4 days after. My milk had come in and I couldn't get my baby to latch anymore. Laurie helped teach me some self massage techniques that helped so much. Then she gave me a massage!! My body was so sore from labor and she gave me the best massage I've ever had. All my pain from labor that I had in my arms, legs and back were gone after that.
If you are able to get Laurie as your doula you will not regret it for a moment. She is a wonderful person and is clearly doing something she loves and is meant to do.
