As a partner supporting my birthing wife, having a doula went beyond my expectations. I learned how to support my partner long before our daughter's delivery. Some specific assets I learned to improve my partner's birthing experience incldued: physically supporting her including spinning babies poses, mastering massage techniqes, learning about pressure points, understanding the birthing process (dialation, station, effacement), and gaining the skills and knowledge to advocate for my partner during labor in a hospital setting. My partner and I were able to feel confident and we also felt like we had ownership/autonomy over the entire birthing process because Barbie French taught us the skills to manage our communications in such as way that the people involved thoughoughly understood our goals (birth plan, goals, expectations). Also, my parnter and I felt extremely comfortable with Barbie - she soon became a part of the family. I appreciated Babie's experience, expertise, kindness, and empathy, and highly recommend her.
