Hiring Marie was the best decision we made to set us up for success for the birth of our son! She supported us every step of the way, from before birth with helpful resources and writing out our birth plan, during my 15 hours of labor, and after my son's birth as well. During labor, there was a lot happening, and the peace of mind we got by having Marie there to support us and help us navigate the process was priceless. She was a fantastic advocate for us throughout. I never needed to worry about my husband as I knew Marie was right there to help him, which allowed me to focus on my labor. During the final few hours before the pushing stage, I started to not cope as well with the contractions so I agreed to an epidural. We waited a couple hours for the anesthesiologist as he was in the OR and by the time he arrived, I was 10 cm and it was pushing time. Just the thought of the epidural 'lifeline' and having Marie and my husband there to support me helped get me through those hours. Furthermore, Marie's calming voice counting down during each push and contraction was super helpful to keep me focused during the 3+ hours of pushing and 20+ minutes of crowning. I didn't need to worry about running out of energy during pushing as Marie kept giving me juice (this was a game changer as I had only 3 hours of sleep the night before). I remember Marie kept wiping my forehead with a cool peppermint scented cloth which was really soothing. I can honestly say if Marie (and of course my husband) weren't there during the final few hours of labor and the pushing stage, I would've given up and likely could've ended up with a C Section delivery. Marie's help was monumental for being able to get him out naturally! I can't emphasize enough the importance of having a doula to help guide you along the journey of pregnancy, labor and birth.
