Having Barbie French as our doula may have been the best investment in our baby’s future that we made. Childbirth is something that we cannot control and has an element of the unknown – it’s very scary that it can result in serious injury or death, as well as traumatic memories. Having Barbie there by our side to inform us and help us make decisions was invaluable. Her home visits were also incredibly helpful to help position the baby into the best position and learn about newborn care. At first my husband felt that a doula would be unnecessary since he was there. He quickly realized that Barbie’s support allowed him to feel more present at the birth, helped us navigate the hospital system, allowed us as a couple to make more informed and thoughtful decisions during childbirth, and ensured that I felt more stable and in control of scary situations.
