My husband and I knew we wanted a Doula at the birth of our first child but we weren't sure what we were looking for or how they would fit into our birth plans. I read Meredith's profile on the NDDA's website and knew I wanted to meet with her. I loved that she was a previous L&D nurse and had experienced birth in the hospital and at home.
We met her via Zoom and I knew pretty quickly that she was the one for us. Her demeanor was calm and positive. I was hesitant on what I wanted during birth in terms of pain management and was nervous about pretty much all of it. She was able to put a lot of my worries to bed and reassured us that there were tools in the birth toolbox that could be used if needed (which is exactly what we needed to hear - it was there for us if we needed it).
Leading up to birth, Meredith was such a wonderful resource for any questions/concerns we had. She gave us lots of information on topics we were on the fence about and when I decided to switch doctor's at 33 weeks she was nothing but supportive and proud that I decided to make the move because I knew it would align better with the birth I wanted.
The day itself was fast and furious. She was such a calming presence in the room and really helped me get through the transition phase. She was truly our cheerleader during everything and I 100% believe that our birth experience would not have been as wonderful as it was without her. She will be our Doula for any future pregnancies and am so thankful for her knowledge, positivity, and support.
