Having experienced past pregnancy trauma Michelle was a blessing to work with and helped heal wounds. Taking the Bradley course with her created some ease as it equipped me with language and knowledge that I did not possess prior. It afforded me the ability to have conversations with my providers and oftentimes challenge, or simply question them when something did not appear to be in my best interest.
Every step of the way Michelle helped us feel empowered by making us aware of our choices. As a mental health counselor I understand the importance of empowering individuals who have experienced trauma by helping them to identify their choices. Recognizing one’s choice(s) is empowering after feeling a sense of powerlessness.
Along with the wealth of knowledge that Michelle holds, she also embodies passion for her craft and compassion for those she works with. I was amazed that on the day of labor Michelle was cognizant of the “small” things which made a world of a difference. Michelle brought to our home essentials that hospital staff hadn’t even considered in order to help manage the flow of fluids after my water broke. She purchased a scented candle to help with mood and to celebrate what was to come; along with flowers! All totally unexpected and above the call of duty… I was treated special.
Michelle sacrificed her personal comfort in order to help ensure that the vision of my birth plan came to be. For nearly 24 hours she worked with me and alongside my husband and the hospital team in a very hands-on type of way; without crossing boundaries or being demanding—she even characterized this balance in navigating situations with our family and friend.
I could not have asked for a better doula experience as it was a needed transformational one for both myself and my partner.
