Luckily I've known Alyx for about 13 years, so when I found out I was pregnant, it was a no brainer to ask her if she was available to be my birth worker. Now with a one month old and looking back at my birth, I can't imagine having done it without her. We had a birth center natural birth planned for our first child and nothing went as planned. We wound up in a hospital for 24 hours with lots of medical interventions, and it was far from "natural". Alyx helped me and my partner to understand and accept our new birth plan. We are so thankful that she was willing to drive up to Portland for us and spend 50+ hours waiting and helping while I labored. Nothing about our baby's birth was easy, but our amazing doula took a lot of the stress off our shoulders. She cooked, cleaned, pushed on my hips through contractions, knitted, took beautiful photos, and shared stories and advice with us. Alyx's knowledge and experience didn't stop at the hospital. She continues to check in with my partner and I, send helpful info about postpartum, and sends sweet encouraging messages. I love Alyx, and I'm so lucky to have been able to experience such an important day with her, she's part of our little family now and forever!
